The village of
La Val (known also under the name
La Valle or
Wengen) is nestled amidst the
Dolomites of South Tyrol (Alto Adige), a
UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. This ancient Ladin settlement lies on the outskirts of the
Nature Park Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags, in a sunny and panoramic location among the vast expanses of meadows, dominated by the mighty
Sasso della Croce/Kreuzkofel, one of the bastions of
Fanes. Infinite peace and tranquillity characterize this area of
Alta Badia. In fact, this is its most quiet and virgin part, ideal for a holiday in close contact with the
unspoilt alpine nature. Here you will find no mountain lifts, because the strongest emotions are experienced walking along the numerous
hiking routes that take you into the
rural atmosphere, almost unchanged in the recent centuries: traditional “viles”, farms, pastures, mountain huts and dairies, alpine meadows and thick coniferous forests and, of course, the Dolomites that can be seen in all their gorgeous majesty.
Those, who prefer exploring the mountains with the help of modern facilities, can take advantage of the vicinity to the famous
tourist areas, such as
Alta Badia and
Plan de Corones/Kronplatz (both included into
Dolomiti Superski). The lifts of Alta Badia can be reached in winter by a
free ski bus, while the cable car Piculin of the skiing area Plan de Corones is only 10 minutes away by car.
To
arrive at La Val we advise you to use the state highway of Pusteria (SS49) till San Lorenzo di Sebato (next to Bruneck), where you should exit towards Val Badia (SS244). As soon as you reach Pederoa, turn left towards La Val. Follow the signs to the village centre and immediately before the graceful parish church of San Genesio, you will find our
Chalet La Flüta in Alta Badia, on the left of the road. Our location allows to find us quickly and to reach easily all the best hiking trails and all the main attractions of La Val.
